6 reasons to skip vacation and go volunteering

  1. You can help make a difference in someone’s life
We Millennials are very positive and enthusiastic. We’ve grown up thinking we can change the world. While changing the world might be a hard goal to achieve, it just takes a lot of people to take one step in the right direction. A step towards a cleaner ocean, saving one Rhino or helping a little child feel loved. No matter how big or small your step, we will all reach our journey!
  2. Change your life a little
When you consider volunteering you know that you will create change in someone else’s life, but what you don’t realize is that they will change your life too! You will appreciate everything you have back home so much more after spending a few weeks in a underprivileged community.
  3. Find your strength
Let’s be real, volunteering is NOT always pretty and because your goal is to make a change you will be working in harsh and uncomfortable situations, you will find the strength inside you to carry you and motivate others to join you.
  4. You’ll get to experience authentic culture
Millennials can easily spot a tourist trap! Thanks to Instagram and Natgeo. Come and Dance to the beat of the drums played by Zulu kids, eat PAP and Wors with the Cape Malay and soak up the sun on Southern Africa beaches.
  5. You go off the grid (literally)
Sometimes, going off the grid isn’t so glamorous. It might be days without wifi or eating dinner outside under African skies. There are certain views you’ll never get to see unless you take the path less traveled.
  6. It’s a lot of work, but it’s also a ton of fun.
Volunteering can create new best friends, take you on adventures and perhaps even a new career. We at GHV offer a full social programme that takes you on Ostrich rides, wine tasting, culture tours and a lot more!
