Vanessa says goodbye

"Dear trusted partners and friends of Good Hope Volunteers,

it is with great sadness and trepidation that I will be leaving my post as Good Hope Volunteers manager at the end of August. My husband has been awarded a prestigious fellowship through the Oxford University Medical Faculty, and him, myself and our 2 dogs, Bubbles and Gravy will be moving to Oxfordshire in the UK.

During my 5 years at Good Hope Volunteers I have had an extraordinary experience, filled with meeting wonderful people as well as getting involved in wonderful experiences with projects and community leaders. I have travelled the world, and spread awareness about the needs of the African continent, our shortfalls, pitfalls, and monumental successes. But most importantly for me have been the well over 2000 volunteers that I have had a personal hand in creating lifelong experiences for. This, for me, has been a privilege and one I am extremely proud to have been a part of. And I would like to thank each and every one of our partners, friends and colleagues around the world, who have worked tirelessly alongside me during these last 5 years.

Thank you for this extraordinary work, filled with heart breaking lows, astonishing highs, and everything in between. It has been a gift, and 5 years of adventure. I will certainly be closer to many of you, and hope to keep in touch with the Good Hope Team, to possibly market the work we do here from abroad.

My position will be filled by Eddie Julius, who has been working alongside me for the last year. Eddie will make this program his own I’m sure, building on an already strong foundation, but adding to it with his wealth of experience and passion for our core business.

I wish you all the best, and hope to keep in touch, and look forward to our paths crossing again!"

Yours,
Vanessa Cloete (Volunteer Manager)
